Saturday in Frederick!

On Saturday, we dropped the pup off at “sleep away camp” and picked up Dan and Keelan for our mini road trip to Frederick, MD. Our main goal was to hang out at the Flying Dog Brewery and sample their finest brews! We showed up and were quickly told that we were not allowed to have any beer unless we were on a tour. We were also told that we could not join a tour because they were all booked! Stupid state laws!

The guy was nice enough to let us in to the gift shop to buy a mixed 4-pack of “road sodas” as he called them. We were a little bitter but were not leaving empty handed…

It was a little chilly, but we found a nice sunny spot at the neighboring hotel and cracked open our beer.

Old Scratch Amber Lager. 2008 Vintage Gonzo Imperial Porter. Double Dog Double Pale Ale. Snake Dog India Pale Ale. All good.

After relaxing and enjoying our beer, we took a cab down to Market Street which is Frederick’s downtown main street! We considered a lot of options but finally decided on Brewer’s Alley because they brewed their own beer!

Keelan and I decided to split the sampler of six different beers which was a great idea!

India Pale Ale. Weizen. 1634 Ale. Olde Fountain Rock. Brewed Awakening. Resinator.

I loved the IPA, Resinator and Brewed Awakening (tasted like straight up coffee)!

While waiting for our table at the bar, we split a dozen deliciously fresh oysters!

They were so good that we got another dozen once we were seated, along with fried pickles! Yum!

I ordered the Potato Crusted Salmon: Grilled Atlantic Salmon Fillet, Creamy Mashed Potatoes, Asparagus and Finished with Balsamic Syrup. Keelan ordered he Fish and Chips, Dan got the Crispy Pork Confit (with a side of pickles), and z had a huge steak! We all shared and there was not an ounce of food left at our table! Everything was really, really good!

Next stop: Olde Towne Tavern for two pitchers of Flying Dog’s Golden Ale…and some french fries!

We decided to be wild and crazy by going to a third destination: The Cellar Door for some music and a nightcap!

We all hung on until about Midnight when we called our trusty cab driver, CJ, who literally picked us up in two minutes, but not before Dan went back to Brewer’s Alley to pick up a Growler!!

What a great night! We were all feeling a little fuzzy the next morning, but it was well worth it! We attempted to go to a recommended BBQ place for lunch on Sunday, but…as our luck would have it, it was CLOSED! Bummer. It was too cold to really walk around, so we just headed home!

It was so nice to get out of the city for the night, but it was also good to come home to the pup who did this for the rest of the day:

He was worn out from playing with his friends all day!

Thanks to Dan and Keelan for a great idea! Can’t wait for the next adventure…
