JAZZ FEST 2012 – DAY TWO, Friday, April 27
I love sleeping in on vacation! I also love free hotel breakfast! Such a nice way to start a day of good music!!
First stop – Terrence Osborne’s booth! We have two of his paintings already and we ordered the Official Jazz Fest poster which he did this year! That’s him in the pink shirt. We actually got to chat with him and shake his hand. What a nice guy!
Little boys eating crawfish. I love that there are so many beautiful children at Jazz Fest! If you grow up in New Orleans, music is in your blood!
LUNCH! Crawfish rice and jambalaya!
I <3 Crawfish!
We only had one beer each day at Jazz Fest. We pretty much just filled up our water bottle all day long.
When you’re hot, lemonade is amazing! It was super hot every day!
First music act of the day –
Blues Tent: James Andrews & the Crescent City Allstars
Fun fact – James Andrews is related to Troy Andrews (Trombone Shorty)!
Gospel Tent: Shades of Praise
Gospel Tent: Irma Thomas!!!!
She did a gorgeous tribute to Mahalia Jackson.
Gentilly Stage: Bon Iver
He has a beautiful voice!
Also…the band is awesome and they play a million instruments!
Last musical event of the day –
Acura Stage: The Beach Boys
They were introduced by… John Stamos (Yes, Uncle Jesse)!!
They still sounded pretty good but Brian Wilson did not look happy at all!
Our first long day of music ended and we rushed back to the hotel to shower and run to make our dinner reservation at Emeril’s Delmonico.
Appetizers: House Pickled Vegetables and Coconut Ceviche
I tried to order a glass of wine and a dish off the menu but my server said “oh no, that’s no good!” I was like…um ok why is it on the menu??
I ended up ordering a soft-shell crab dish with crawfish. It was pretty good but the breading on the crab was a bit heavy. I LOVED the crawfish…which is quickly becoming a new favorite food!
Delmonico’s is known for it’s steaks, so z ordered a 12 ounce, dry-aged NY Strip steak with a side of whipped potatoes. I think he really enjoyed the steak!
Overall, the meal was tasty but the merlot wasn’t very good and the service was just…weird.
I always forget how long these days are…good thing we can sleep in!
