On Tuesday morning, z and I drove to the airport and headed to San Francisco! z’s sister (A) and brother-in-law (P) live just outside San Fran so his sister was nice enough to pick us up!! When we got to their house, I was anxious to meet the new addition to their family…
Meet Samba This is their new “puppy” (he’s eight months, but 80 pounds!!)!
Yes, we love him!
Since our flight was slightly less than pleasant (7 hours in the air??), we kept dinner simple!
Pizza and salad – a winning combination!
Then there was more puppy play time.
On Wednesday morning, we got up and headed to the Stanford campus to hike around “The Dish.”
Our little stroll turned into a gorgeous 4-mile hike
After our hike it was time to shop for Thanksgiving provisions. A had a list of everything she needed (including a turkey!) and we were in and out without a problem.
I think we did pretty well…
SHHH — The turkey is brining!
We also stopped at the pet store to pick up Samba’s gigantic Thanksgiving Bone!
That night, P grilled steak and veggies outside on the grill.
Fresh salad with pomegranate arils and avocado!
Perfectly grilled veggies.
My plate – believe me, I went back for more
After brining for 24 hours, the turkey was ready for the oven. See ya later bird!
The table has been set!
The bar is ready!
Potatoes and squash: peeled and cut! z made the taters and I made the vegetables!
I love the open kitchen bar!
After a couple hours, the turkey was nice and golden brown!
We set up the cheese plate…
…and the awesome smoked salmon plate!
I spied on the pup!
Because lunch doesn’t usually happen on Thanksgiving, appetizers are super important!
Time for Samba’s Thanksgiving treat!
For dinner, we chose a Pinot Noir from Oregon called Cloudline!
My plate: stuffing, buttermilk roll, butternut squash, mashed potatoes, cranberries and asparagus!
Dessert time: Pumpkin and Apple Pies from Whole Foods
Whipped cream is not photogenic…but it is delicious! Good thing it was buy one, get one free!
We had such a lovely Thanksgiving! Thanks for having us, A&P!
